Pool repair in North Fort Myers
North Fort Myers takes in ZIP codes 33903 and 33917. With no city government, its rules are the county’s, and its housing looks unlike anywhere else in Lee County: older on average, and about half mobile homes. Pool work requested from here is the full list, from pool resurfacing and pool pump repair to pool heater repair and leak detection.
Permits come from Lee County
Lee County’s permit center lists Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Estero, Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel as places that may handle their own permitting. North Fort Myers is not on that list, so a pool job here goes through the county. The county’s pool permit application, revised in October 2025, is built around “a Pool and Deck permit” and asks for the pool’s safety feature, whether it has a deck and its value. Resurfacing on its own is not mentioned, which makes the county the place to ask before a finish is replaced. A contractor working here needs a state-issued license or a Lee County certificate of competency, according to the county’s contractor form.
Safety features and the enclosure affidavit
The same county form asks the applicant to pick one pool safety feature from a short list: a barrier, alarms, a pool cover, self-closing latching doors, or a removable ladder for an above-ground pool with a wall 48 inches or taller. Its enclosure affidavit warns that “a permanent enclosure must be in place and an enclosure permit posted prior to a final inspection”, and the permit itself lapses if the first inspection is not made within six months of issue. Anyone replacing a screen cage along with a finish should expect the enclosure to be a separate permit, as the form says.
The water depends on where the pool is
North Fort Myers is not served by one water system. FGUA’s own table lists its North Fort Myers system for 33903 and 33917 with “No report available (Wastewater system)”, and FGUA’s 2025 reports for two mobile home parks in the area describe two different supplies:
- Pine Lakes: “Your water is supplied by Lee County Utilities.” The report says the North Lee County water treatment plant treats groundwater from the lower Hawthorn aquifer and that “this water is treated by reverse osmosis”.
- Lake Fairways: “Your water is supplied from two wells located in Lake Fairways MHP. The wells draw from the intermediate aquifer. The water is aerated and disinfected with free chlorine.”
Neither report publishes a hardness figure. Before a new finish is filled, it is worth reading the report from whichever utility bills you and testing what comes out of the hose.
Older homes, and many of them mobile homes
The Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (2020-2024) counts 29,288 housing units in the North Fort Myers census-designated place, with a median year built of 1986. A third of them, 33.8%, date from 1979 or earlier, and only 20.7% from 2000 on. 49.1% are mobile homes, against less than 1% in Cape Coral, and 36.9% are single-family detached houses. 85.7% of occupied homes are lived in by their owners. Where the house dates from the 1980s or earlier, ask for the age of the finish and the equipment to be noted in the written quote.

Questions, answered
North Fort Myers pool questions
Do I need a city permit for pool work in North Fort Myers?
No city issues permits there. North Fort Myers is not one of the six places Lee County's permit center says may run their own permitting, so pool permits come from Lee County. Its pool permit application covers a pool and deck permit and does not address resurfacing on its own; ask the county what your job needs.
Is North Fort Myers water the same everywhere?
Not necessarily. FGUA's 2025 reports show one North Fort Myers mobile home park, Pine Lakes, supplied by Lee County Utilities from a reverse osmosis plant, and another, Lake Fairways, supplied by two wells of its own in the intermediate aquifer. Your own utility's annual report says which applies to you.
